Martin the Monkey by Ralph McTell Everybody loves a little monkey And a monkey's very very fond of nuts. Everybody loves a monkey Cause he looks a little bit like us. Everybody loves a little monkey He's even got fingers on his hands, Everybody loves a little monkey Cause he looks like a little old man. Now everybody likes to see a monkey, You can see a little monkey at the zoo You can even see him at the seaside Get your picture taken with him too Everybody likes to see a monkey Every little once in a while Everybody likes to see a monkey Because a monkey always makes us smile Now Mary has a monkey friend called Martin He works for Mr Moppat every day And Martin dances on the barrel-organ That's how he earns his pay But Mary didn't show up on the Friday She was ill in bed with spots in her pyjamas Martin brought the barrel-organ round to cheer her up And Mary gave him a nice banana. Banana, banana, better than a toffee or a biscuit Banana, banana, there's not a monkey born who can resist it. Now everybody wants a little monkey They'd love to have a monkey as a pet Everybody thinks that a monkey Is the best pet you could get Everybody wants a little monkey It's better than a kitten or a pup With his tricks and his jokes He's a funny little bloke A monkey always seems to cheer us up.
